Make Baseball Interesting to play and watch
Drama, over and over and over again…..
Let’s compare old fashioned baseball to football. On offense the batter is the equivalent to the quarterback; the batter gets general direction from the base coach on what to do before each play. The catcher is probably equivalent to the middle linebacker; he directs the pitcher on every play what he wants the next pitch be.
A snap of the ball in football starts a play; in baseball each pitch is a play. In football, the players get together before every play and discuss what the next play will be. The players (all offense and defensive players) then deploy and execute the play in front of the fans with all players on both teams contributing to the play. The results of the play are immediately known. In old fashioned baseball (OFB) most plays involve only the catcher and pitcher. Since most baseball plays end with the catcher getting the ball the fans have no idea what strategy was used on each play. The results of most baseball plays are only obvious by the actions of some black marshmallow standing behind the catcher announcing them. Pitch, pitch, pitch, foul, pitch, pitch, foul, pitch, pitch, pitch, grounder to 2nd, toss to first, runner out. Baseball is boring, boring, boring, etc.
ROB adds the ability to make each play in baseball be more visible from an offensive point of view. In it’s pure form, the batter would not reveal the plan to the other team or fans before each play. In modified ROB (ROB for beginners), the batter would indicate what the intentions are (CW or CCW) before each play (pitch) when the ability to alter the BRR is in effect; the batter could change and announce a new plan before each pitch.
I am interested in setting up a four/eight team softball tournament somewhere to crown the first world champion ROB team - Great publicity for your league or town.
